Friday the 13th was a good day for always-cheerful Christine Ray.  She was celebrating her 44th birthday and baked her signature cake to share with everyone in the warm room.  Although coming off the ice after a 1-0 loss to the Rockets, Christine’s positive attitude and good spirits were infectious to all. You might remember her as the bikini-clad skater at NEWHL’s Halloween games?

Christine graduated from UMass Amherst with a BA in Psychology and continued her studies attaining a Masters from Antioch College in Keene, NH. She worked for many years as a crisis clinician and at an adolescent jail counseling troubled teens. Admittedly burned out after 10 years, she began a marketing career for nursing homes where she endured less stress and enjoyed “mature” clients. These days, Christine is a stay-at-home mom of two boys, Edwin (10) and Max (8); and two cats, Beamer (the BMW she’ll never have) and Trumpet.

When she’s not on the ice Christine “relaxes” by training for and competing in triathlons. Christine also loves fishing (she hopes to join the Bass-Pro Circuit when she retires), cooking and hanging with her family. She calls herself a “professional mini-golfer,” and her dream vacation would be renting a houseboat on a Canadian river and bass fishing with the family. She recently participated in her own personal game of “Survivor” when the family lost power for 5 days, but with true Christine optimism, she declared it a “blast!” She has also created a mini-industry selling stuff on Ebay to offset expenses for her 6-day a week hockey habit.

Christine was the last in the family to don skates after her hockey-playing husband, Bill, found NEWHL on the web last fall. Christine says the best thing about skating with NEWHL is being able to “learn and improve, even at our age, when everything else is going downhill!”
